Full Review

Our experience testing the EVERGOODS ELEMENT Drop-In Pouch has shown that it may not be everyone. After all, not every traveler needs every travel essential on the market. However, it might be a new favorite of business travelers and those with unique paperwork needs moving forward. It’s the first item in their all-new ELEMENT line, and these products are meant to be highly water-resistant. Enough teasing; let’s dive in!

External Components

The exterior is crafted from nylon 6, a durable synthetic polymer. Essentially, it’s a more durable, highly water-resistant nylon. The material has a TPU laminate, meaning that it’s layered with thermoplastic polyurethane to be darn near waterproof and even more rugged than nylon 6 alone.

All that technical stuff is rad, but how does it perform? Short story: good! Long story: it holds up well against spills, bouts of rain, and cold or warm gear butting up next to it. The material isn’t very malleable, so you can’t stuff extra stuff inside, but it’s durable, which we’re here for.

The seams are RF welded, meaning high-frequency radio waves were used to mold them together. This offers more water resistance than standard stitched seams because there aren’t any holes between the stitches. We’ve seen this on other waterproof gear in the past, and it’s worked well, as it does here.

The zipper is from YKK and has an AquaGuard finish. We’ll be the first to admit that this entry point isn’t waterproof because it doesn’t meet the criteria (think: IPX rating). However, if we’re honest, we’d say that this pouch is as close as it gets to waterproof without being submersible. If it’s splashed, dripped on, or dropped into a puddle, water won’t enter the main compartment as long as the zipper isn’t submerged. If it is, water will slowly creep inside.

The zipper is fairly smooth, courtesy of the TPU coating on the track. The pull is crafted from Hypalon and is easy to grab onto, even in wet conditions. It’s large, which may deter some travelers with smaller packs, but we like the size for quick access to our gear and documents when we’re on the go. If it were smaller, this could take longer, slowing us down.

There’s an EVERGOODS logo imprinted on the bottom right of the pouch’s front side. It’s quite hard to see, and you might not have noticed it if we hadn’t said something. We like this pouch’s minimalism, from the logo to the Hypalon zipper pulls.

The pouch’s bottom has a gusset, essential for gear storage in the main compartment. When you load stuff inside, the gusset expands, enabling you to stow more gear and documents. If you don’t have as much inside, the gusset folds to save space and keep the pouch looking sleek.

Before we dive inside, it’s worth noting that this pouch comes in at 6.85 ounces and measures 13.25 by 8.38 inches, or 21.3 by 33.7 centimeters. Depending on the orientation and capacity, it’ll fit inside almost all travel backpacks and some larger daypacks.

Inside The Pouch

The opening to the main compartment measures 10.5 inches or 26.67 centimeters. That is ideal for fitting most documentation, but you may have to curve some larger items to get them inside. The interior width is bigger than that, so they’ll fit, and you won’t have many problems stowing your gear if you’re using it for tech.

EVERGOODS ELEMENT Drop-In In-Use

The main compartment is a large open area with a divider in the middle. The center organizer section doesn’t extend to the bottom and only connects on two sides.

Inside the divider, there are two large pockets and a pen slider. These are ideal for locking down smaller items you don’t want bopping around the main compartment, like a passport, other identification, or small tech items. This area has even more protection from the outside world because there’s an additional layer of material between your gear and whatever is on the outside trying to hurt it. There aren’t any pockets on the outside of the divider.

EVERGOODS ELEMENT Drop-In Stuffed

Although the materials are durable enough to handle thicker items, like a calculator or pen, we find that overstuffing this section may bend or damage paper documents that you have stored outside of the divider.

The rest of the main compartment is open space. While you can segment your gear using the divider, smaller items can roam freely between the two sides since the divider is suspended. When not packed out, the gusset is noticeable on the bottom of the pouch, which may get in the way of some items fitting inside. Usually, you’ll need to slightly adjust things to get it out of the way.

If you’re aiming to use this as a tech pouch, there isn’t a ton of organization for that. However, it’s a solid option as an everyday carry pouch for someone who has larger items and wants to ensure that they stay safe and dry. That said, it has a sizable footprint and is challenging to carry as-is because it doesn’t have a handle, which may deter some travelers.

As we initially said, the EVERGOODS ELEMENT Drop-In isn’t for everyone. However, if it’s for you, you’ll love it.
